Paper One Draft

America, a historic land of freedom and wealth. A land witch the people govern and change is ever prevalent. A land that a simple pastor can spring monumental change. However, when this country was founded many of its founders were indeed slave owners and racist. The vary racism that affected African Americans for almost 200 years. Freedom obtained after years of civil disobedience spurred on and capped off by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. African Americans were able to celebrate a political victory after the election of President Barack Obama, further showing how far the United States have come. Due to the extraordinary speech by Martin Luther King Jr. and the election of Barack Obama, America is the great place it is today.

When Martin Luther King gave his speech black citizens where not allowed to dine in restaurants or drink the same water. Through Martins speeches and actions those travesties started the slow process of changing the horrible ideas of racist whites. On top of his shivering speeches King led peaceful protests witch showed the world just how aweful his people were treated on a daily basis.

While Barack Obama has overcome tremendous odds. In my opinion there is no comparison between King and Obama. Obama being the first African American president makes him a influencial and historical figure. In his More perfect union speech he talks about unity and change. Simillar to to Kings I have a dream speech. Kings speech sparked a movement and is still used and referenced today almost 50 years later. Time will tell about Obama’s, More Perfect Union, speech, it could be lost in the catacombs of time or be chizled in stone next to the Lincoln Memorial.

In the time of King speaking out against government and law was considering being socially deviant. King started movements and even trained blacks on how to spur change. The general white public never supported King in his actions and  even tried to confine them.

America always listened to Obama and respected his word. Reverend Wright dug a big hole for our president. Obama had to respond to the comments that Wright made. Obamas speech while inspiring was an expectation and was needed to give on the basis of public conception. If Obama did not respond to Wright’s hatred then crowds would assume Obama feels the same way right does, hereby hurting Obamas Presidential hopes.

History will tell when it comes to Obama. We will not find out his affects for at least five years. Kings has already claimed his piece of the history. I feel that Obama has great potential to be right behind Martin Luther King when it comes to civl equality.
